Harry Seidler has become one of Australia’s most famous architects but the careers of his European contemporaries is not well known. When the first histories of modernism in Australia were being written in the 1960s none of the many European educated designers working in Sydney post-war were identified. This project gathers a range of short biographies of émigré designers, illustrating their presence, careers and acknowledging their contribution to the development of Australia’s modern design culture.

The exhibition The Moderns, Museum of Sydney, July to November 2017 is one part of this project. The publication The Other Moderns, NewSouth Press, 2017 is another.
